In Sri Lanka, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a time of joy, family, and new beginnings. At Inspire Village, we believe that celebration is even more meaningful when shared across communities. Just like previous years, we are intentionally inviting children from the special needs education institutions and orphanages representing different ethnic and religious backgrounds to join us in honoring our shared cultural heritage while embracing our diversity.

You can help us to buy gilfs to the children who will join this program.

A Festival Built on Tradition and Togetherness

Week 1: The Preparation Camp & Cultural Workshops (April 10–17)

Ten dedicated youth participants from diverse backgrounds are invited to gather at Inspire Village for a week of immersive learning and preparation. They will take part in daily workshops designed to pass down traditional knowledge: Traditional Sweets & Food: Learning to prepare festive delicacies such as Kevum, Kokis, and Athirasa, alongside Tamil and Muslim treats. Halal options will be included to ensure everyone feels welcome. Music & Art: Exploring traditional rhythms, folk songs, and visual arts—from the Raban and Parai drums to Kolam patterns and crafts from different communities.Traditional Games: Mastering the rules and techniques of beloved games like Kotta Pora, Kana Mutti, Elle, and Pancha, which have brought Sri Lankan families together for generations. By the end of the week, these young leaders will be ready to facilitate the main festival day, sharing what they have learned with the wider community. If you are interested, click the link below and fill out the application.

Week 2: The New Year Festival (April 18)

On April 18, we open our gates to the community. We expect over 200 guests—families, elders, and children from surrounding villages, as well as children from two local orphanages. The day will be filled with: Traditional games for all ages, hosted by our camp participants. A communal feast featuring traditional foods from Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim culinary traditions. Live music and cultural activities that reflect the rich diversity of our community. A complimentary traditional New Year lunch for all attendees, prepared with care and shared together. If you would like to participate, show your interest by filling out the application. We will get back to you with more information. If you need accommodation.
